Rescuers tried to feed the whale fish without success since Friday. The sad end to a saga that gripped France in recent days came after experts determined the whale "was too weakened to be put back into water," Guillaume Lericolais, the sub-prefect of France's Calvados region, said. In 2006, a bottlenose whale - nicknamed "Willy" - swam up the Thames River as far as London and died during a its attempted rescue.Īnother complicating factor during the beluga's rescue attempt was the extreme heat gripping France. Rescuers had hoped to spare the whale the fate of an orca that strayed into the Seine and died in May. The group and veterinarians noted the whale had responded to a cocktail of antibiotics and vitamins over the last few days, making them hopeful it would recover once it was back in a saltwater environment.Ī necropsy is planned on the whale, which weighed about about 800 kilograms (1,764 pounds). ![]() But marine conservation group Sea Shepherd said that it couldn't have survived much longer in the Seine's fresh water. ![]() "The suffering was obvious for the animal, so it was important to release its tension, and so we had to proceed to euthanize it," she added.Įnvironmentalists had acknowledged the plan to move the beluga risked fatally stressing the mammal. Before you spend a Benjamin or two on the latest and greatest keyboard, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the most important part of the keyboard-the key switch.Ī key switch doesn't refer to the actual tops of the keys you see when you look at a keyboard on your desk (those bits are generally called "keycaps"), but rather the actual physical mechanism underlying each key. With so many choices, picking the right mechanical keyboard can be overwhelming. But in the last few years, the underlying technology in mechanical keyboards has exploded in complexity (to an extent, driven by marketing and extreme segmentation catering to keyboard enthusiasts). Indeed, a mechanical keyboard can be a daily driver that gives you joy every time you sit down in front of it. This is especially crucial when you're looking for a gaming keyboard or a productivity model with mechanical switches, where a single button press can change the outcome of a match, or the key feel keep you motivated through a long work day writing up those TPM reports and tapping out endless e-mails. Fail to consider which type of switch is right for you, and you could be robbing yourself of years of comfort, function, and style. The type of key switch is chief among them. But several crucial components decide whether that typing experience will be enjoyable and comfortable, or merely tolerable. Sure, every keyboard will let you type something and have it show up onscreen. Whether you bought an off-the-shelf PC or assembled a gaming or office rig yourself, an oft-overlooked part of the computer buying process is sometimes the most important: your choice of keyboard. ![]() How to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication. How to Record the Screen on Your Windows PC or Mac.How to Convert YouTube Videos to MP3 Files. ![]()

I would be really grateful if the good people at REAPER could implement a score editor.I have reset Reaper back to original default settings, it and does the same thing However when I save the take the wave form appears abnormal/segmented, and sounds horrible on play back. The wave form looks normal when I am recording. I can hear that my guitar sounds fine through headphone amp, and registers on Reaper track when armed. While I can program anything I need to in the current editor, it still feels fussy and twice as much work as working in other environments, such as Machine, Cubase, or FXpansion Geist. Biggest frustration…Reaper totally rocks in almost every way – but I would like better MIDI editing capabilities.Other than that, I think Reaper is awesome! I need to go to the bkp file, which fortunately is saved every few minutes. Undo history doesn’t show anything that looks look deleting, so I can’t undo it. Once in a while, I’ll be editing (splitting regions, typically), and I don’t know if I hit the wrong key shortcut by mistake, but all the regions in my project disappear.how to import third party plug-ins into Reaper… I seem to be able to download them, but am missing a step to let Reaper recognize them. That it’s audio engine actually is less effective than BlowTools ones these days.My biggest frustration with Reaper is that, as a newbie to DAWs, I’m struggling to learn the basics of operating the system even after watching some tutorials. The size of the send knobs in the mixer (could be bigger, or a small fader) or the lack of metering for sends.Under -20db is very hard to adjust properly The scale in the volume envelope being logarithmic instead of linear makes VERY difficult to adjust levels unless you zoom the track vertically.Let’s keep it going, add your answer in the comments section below. SendMIDI has pre-built binaries available for several platforms. The one feature I wish MIDI Monitor had was the ability to display the raw MIDI messages along side the human readable messages, since it's the raw data that's needed for Reaper. In other words, you can see what a MIDI device is sending AND also what is being sent to the MIDI device. ![]() ![]() The one feature of MIDI Monitor that is crucial is the ability to "spy" on MIDI output destinations. MIDI Monitor is written for the Mac but I'm sure there are similar tools available for other platforms. The tools I use are both free and open source: MIDI Monitor and SendMIDI. My platform of choice for working with MIDI is a Mac. This repo is a compilation of information and code I've discovered, compiled, and developed to help integrate the ATOM with Reaper. It's just not the DAW I've been using for the last nine years. The problem is my DAW of choice is Reaper. Robert recommended the ATOM as a top choice for an entry level pad controller.Īfter watching a YouTube review of the Presonus ATOM, I was immediately intrigued by how tight it was integrated with Presonus Studio One 4. I was just starting to look for a replacement for my two year old Akai MPD218 that had just started developing the dreaded double-trigger problem. I first saw the Presonus ATOM in a YouTube video by Robert Mathijs from Quest for Groove. Exploring the integration of the Presonus ATOM Pad Controller with the Reaper Digital Audio Workstation Background ![]() He delivers the mission briefings, and a bit of helpful commentary throughout the battle (warning you, for example, when a unit is taking a beating and needs attention). And it’s all set to a tonally perfect musical score that would be right at home in a Mission Impossible film.Īnother nice touch is the voice work provided by Guy Harris. Alien ray guns and plasma beams make exactly the sounds ray guns and plasma beams make in real life (presumably). Missiles launch and explode with satisfying whizzes and bangs. The sound and music in Anomaly Warzone are topnotch. Nevertheless, the unit design gets the job done and, unless you really stop to think about it to, for example, write a review of the game, the uninspired design will probably go mostly unnoticed–especially since you’ll be feasting your eyes on the spectacular environments 11 bit studios has created here. Anomaly Warzone’s unit design isn’t nearly as varied or interesting as what you’ll find in Fieldrunners, and it doesn’t come remotely close to the inspired design of the plants and zombies battling it out in Plants vs. The convoy vehicles (i.e, the characters you control), on the other hand, lean a bit toward the generic side. The environments are superb, depicting in minute detail a nearly post-apocalyptic Baghdad, with crumbling buildings and smashed and burning cars littering the streets. The artwork in Anomaly Warzone is something of a mixed bag. Anomaly Warzone Earth is very well designed. My wife is a graphic designer, so I vicariously □ know good design. Everything from the main menu system to the tactical map manipulation (more on that later) is utterly streamlined, elegant and intuitive. It’s worth noting that the user interface in Anomaly Warzone was designed by someone who should design UIs for a living. And if there’s one thing on which everyone who has played both versions seems to agree, it’s that the iPad version manages to outshine it’s older sibling thanks to the iPad’s intuitive touchscreen controls. I never played the PC/Mac version, but from what I’ve read most of the game came over to the iPad intact. And, in fact, that’s where it started its life. This is a game that would be at home on a home videogame console or the PC/Mac. The production values of Anomaly Warzone Earth are spectacular. If you’ve played Field Runners (and if you haven’t, you should), the mechanics are a lot like the exact opposite of that game. Instead of manning the towers, you control a military convoy trying to blast your way through enemy (a malevolent Alien race that has invaded Earth) controlled towers. 11 bit studios has turned the tower defense genre on its head here. Everything from the opening sequence to the ending credits has been lovingly crafted and finely tuned.Īnomaly Warzone is another iPad tower defense game, but make no mistake, this isn’t just another tower defense game. 11 bit studios has delivered one of the most impressive games on the App Store with Anomaly Warzone. ![]() On second thought, another equally appropriate description comes to mind: Fun. This Anomaly also released several months prior on PC, but touchscreens allowed it to shine the brightest. No adjective is better suited to Anomaly Warzone Earth than “polish”. ![]() Simpler too, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing in an iOS game. Warzone Earth is like the RTS classics of days gone by, except without having to worry about gathering resources or having the enemy attack you while you’re launching your foolproof assault plan. Sometimes you can get a lot of innovation by just a simple adjustment in game design, and you’ll find that in practice here.Īt least for yours truly, it’s a more compelling exercise than tower defense anyway, speaking to some kind of primal urge we have to play offense over defense (except for J.J. This is tower offense, as you strike back against Earth’s alien invaders by putting together a convoy of vehicles that can defeat their entrenched defenses. That’s because the game throws the genre up in the air and flips it by 180 degrees. Why that’s the case is a topic for another time, but Anomaly: Warzone Earth is almost one - just not quite. Given how big tower defense was in the formative years of mobile gaming, it’s hard to find an example of the genre among the most highly regarded iOS games of all time. ![]() Free software = Download Free software and also open source code also known as FOSS (Free and Open Source Software).
